Not a Pep Talk: Hearing God in a Culture of Injustice
Habakkuk 2:2 — More Than a Vision Board
You’ve probably heard this verse used in motivational talks: “Write the vision and make it plain…” The usual spin? Write down your goals so you can achieve them.
But here’s the truth: Habakkuk wasn’t writing a self-help list. He was documenting a shocking revelation from God—a vision so severe most people wouldn’t believe it.
Judah in his day looked a lot like our world now: corrupt politics, shallow religion, crooked courts, social violence, and a weary, cynical mood. Habakkuk’s cry? “How long, Lord?”
God’s reply? Judgment through Babylon. Not revival. Not the answer Habakkuk wanted.
That’s why God told him to write the vision plainly—so people could live by faith while waiting on God’s justice and salvation.
The real call of Habakkuk 2:2 isn’t to manifest your dreams. It’s to:
-
Climb the watchtower — position yourself to hear above the noise.
-
Expect correction — God shapes us before He comforts us.
-
Write His vision, not yours — so others can run with it.
-
Live by faith — even when the fig tree doesn’t blossom.
This is exactly what Johnathan and Kara Sparks did when they surrendered their business in Dallas. They shut everything down, gave God the pen, and within a year, He redeemed $28M in lost opportunities, opened breakthrough projects, and expanded their influence globally.
Habakkuk 2:2 isn’t about your vision board. It’s about His.
