Andy Mason (00:01)
Hey, welcome to the conversation. I'm Andy Mason. This is the Heaven in Business Podcast, where we help you navigate the messy intersection of faith, family, and business. And I got a special guest with me today. But before I do that, I just want to ask you a question. What if that challenge that you've got with your employee, all of those employees, what if it wasn't an employee problem? What if it was a disciple-making problem? We're gonna unpack that today because I got with me Dave Buehring.
if you've been following the podcast for a while, you may have heard me interview him before with his previous book. And we're not gonna even talk about that. That's the great opportunity. You can find that. We're just gonna dive into his background and and how this conversation is all about disciple making and how I can bring that and actually translate that into a work environment so that actually you don't have an employee problem. You actually got a program
or a curriculum or a disciple making plan in place to help grow your people to become the people that you would want to have as employees. So Dave, first, thank you so much for joining us.
Dave (01:12)
Yeah, it's my privilege. It's always good to be with you, Andy.
Andy Mason (01:16)
And I got to be with you a couple months ago for the first time at
Dave (01:19)
Yeah.
Andy Mason (01:19)
Leadership Games. Leadership Games in
Dave (01:21)
Yeah.
Andy Mason (01:22)
Nashville. Tell us there's all these cool things. You got leadership games, there's this discipleship journey, there's the there's a whole discipleship manual for spiritual formation. There is so much. Give us a little bit about who is Dave, how did Dave get to be doing what he does now? And where do you where do you even exist?
Dave (01:46)
So I live in Franklin, Tennessee, and my wife and I just crossed the threshold of being here 35 years. So my wife's name is Cheryl. We're hitting 44 years here of marriage pretty quick. got
Andy Mason (01:57)
Congratulations.
Dave (01:58)
two thank you. Got two kids that both live here, both in one's forty-two, one's ready to hit forty. So grandkids are here. So that's always the will of God, right? So we're so grateful for that.
And Lion's here just hit twenty-five years, so we just had a celebration of that. And the focus, Andy, is really like the tagline is shaping leaders in the ways of God and making disciple makers. And so a lot of what we focus on is how do we take the things of Jesus and make them practical first in our lives, like the one of the ways I was discipled by a man named Lauren Cunningham from Youth of the Mission. Lauren, we are on a flight and he opens to Acts one one.
And it says where Jesus first began to do and teach. And he said, So I'm I'm twenty. And he says, So remember this is always the order. If you want to be somebody that speaks, lives, and leads with authority, first do, then teach.
And and so, you know, so
Andy Mason (02:56)
Very good.
Dave (02:57)
I'm getting this as a twenty-year-old, just, you know, you kinda go, Okay, that's a good thought. And then of course the older you get, you go, that's gold. Right. And so so much of what we've done has been trying to
First live it in our own lives and our relationships and the places of leadership and society where God has us. And then as a jumping off point from that is how can we help others either lead more like Jesus or that they can, you know, reflect their lives as a disciple more like Jesus. So that that's kind of the broad ballpark, Andy, of where we live.
Andy Mason (03:30)
Okay, so critique what I said then. I mean you for the last forty s five, seven years, you have been mentored, discipled with as a part of YWAM, as a part of Lion Share yourself and what you've been doing. And and I just said that for the people that we lead, you guys don't have an employee problem. You've got a disciple making problem.
Dave (03:52)
Yeah, yeah.
Andy Mason (03:53)
for a Christian business owner with
saved and unsaved employees had all sorts of stuff going on that we've chatted about already. Is is that true? Is it a disciple making problem? Can people be discipled? Is that is that what we're missing in the workplace?
Dave (04:11)
Yeah, I I feel like it's a really important piece. And if we just kind of begin with addressing, you know, business leaders that also say they're followers of Jesus, we've got to always get that order right. That we're first followers of Jesus that happen to be business leaders. It's like talking not long ago with a governor, it's like, you know, when you you speak to someone like that, it's like do you understand right that you're first a follower of Jesus that just happens to be serving as a governor, right? And so
Andy Mason (04:37)
Yeah, yeah.
Dave (04:38)
So same thing with our artists that live here in our community. It's like, yeah, you're a well known artist out there, but are you first a follower of Jesus that that's the overflow?
Andy Mason (04:46)
Yeah, so first.
Dave (04:47)
And I and I and I think I think, you know, if as a business person, the business leaders that we've walked with, it it is a question that we actually just address and say, like, it are you viewing Jesus as kind of like there in the backpack and you can unzip it and pull him out when you need to to help.
Andy Mason (05:04)
Yeah, show You you've
got one right there. Like show us. Yeah. You got a little Jesus. Yeah. That's that's our problem. We got a little Jesus. Yeah.
Dave (05:06)
Yeah, yeah. One of our one of our one of our team members always likes to leave the little Jesus right here on my desk. Yeah, it's like the little J Yeah, that's right. He he's kind of right here. And when you need
him, you just yeah, and and and and I think that's
Andy Mason (05:21)
The genie. The genie in the bottle when I've got a problem.
Dave (05:24)
Genie Jesus. That's right. You know?
Andy Mason (05:26)
Yeah.
Dave (05:27)
So so I I I couldn't agree with you more, Andy. It's like the reality is you've got you've got
business folks that sincerely love Jesus, they're committed to their churches, they're committed to give. They're but but that without discipleship, it's not translated your faith is not translated into every part of your life. And for me the big three, of course there's more, but the big three is your life and then secondly is your relationships. You know, do you do you walk as a follower of Jesus well in your marriage, as a h as a husband, wife, as a mom, as a dad, but then
your friendship and then the third category is your vocation. Like are you are you really reflecting Jesus and leading like him in your own life, in your relationships and in your vocation? And it's not a it's it's not a tag on like like just you know it really is
Andy Mason (06:22)
Yeah.
Dave (06:22)
he's the leader and I'm following him and if I'm walking in his ways I'm constantly wanting my people to grow and be developed. If they're not Christians they're gonna get the rub off effect.
Right. But if they are, how can I make sure within my company they are growing and being developed in their walks with the Lord?
Andy Mason (06:41)
So I mean you're you're pointing out if I if I call myself a follower of Jesus, I'm a follower of Jesus first. In the
Dave (06:48)
Yeah.
Andy Mason (06:48)
kingdom of God, there is no second. Seek first the kingdom of God, and you're either doing that or you're not. So
Dave (06:54)
Yeah, yeah.
Andy Mason (06:56)
so that I am a follower of Jesus in the workplace. He is my Lord, my savior. How how important is it? I mean, I could say, well, I'm a I just make money and I serve people.
And my employees do that, and I just give my check on Sunday. And so, I mean, here's here's what I wouldn't even say my thoughts of it, I'll just tell you the situation. Business CEO of a family owned business with 10,000 employees
Dave (07:25)
Yeah.
Andy Mason (07:25)
comes to my office, says, Andy, can I get access to your email list of 10,000 emails of business owners so that they would write checks out to my my
i I donate ten percent of my time, CEO of ten thousand employees donates ten percent of his time to be on a large ministry that does crusades. Are the crusades wrong? No. Are they bad? No, they're great. And but he this is his this is his benevolent this is what he does as a part of what he wants to do with his life. I said, I I love you doing that. This is not what we do with our list. It's not how we serve people. But tell me more.
you're a CEO, you've got 10,000 people, a family owned business. So you're an owner as well as the leader. And you're in this, you're you're fully embedded. This isn't it's not just a job. It's actually part of your family, history, legacy, what you're doing. So 10% of your time you're giving to this outside crusade, somewhere else with some other people that you'll never see again.
What are you doing on a daily basis to disciple, to mentor, to train, to pastor, to evangelize, to influence and lead those 10,000 people? And he didn't even hesitate. He said, no, that's too hard. And I just
Dave (08:44)
Really?
Andy Mason (08:45)
I'm heartbroken in the sense of something's
Dave (08:48)
Wow.
Andy Mason (08:49)
broken on the inside. Dave, you the best person to ask you. I mean, I told you where I'm at with this. It's just like, guys, we we
Dave (08:57)
Yeah, yeah.
Andy Mason (08:59)
If
we did the job inside my 10,000 employees, we wouldn't have to do the crusade. And and you get paid to do it. I don't have to put money through of something and and lose it along the way. And I could actually do it right where I am at. Speak into this. How how big a
Dave (09:16)
Yeah, yeah.
Andy Mason (09:16)
deal is this for business owners to say, as a follower of Jesus, I don't just have a business, I have a responsibility and a stewardship. And it's not just writing a check out.
And it's not just volunteering
Dave (09:28)
Yeah.
Andy Mason (09:28)
at something, it's something on Monday to Friday every day of the week.
Dave (09:33)
Yeah, that's right. And and I think it's I like the word that you use there too. It's like stewarding. It's like we have to realize that the Lord is the one that has enabled you to create, develop, take the leadership of this business. And there's a stewarding there first. It's kinda like Andy, like with our families. You and I know that if our marriage isn't good, we can't be doing the things that we're doing. And and that's not our motive though. It's like, okay, honey, we gotta be good so I can go. It's it's an overflow. Yeah,
Andy Mason (10:00)
Yeah, not a vineyard. Yeah.
Dave (10:02)
yeah.
Yeah, it's an overflow. And and I would say it's the same thing. It's like if this is something that God has given you to steward, like I love, like one of the things I love about business owners is how they like that they get to take care of families, right? Because that person that's hired and they get their check, they know I'm getting to take care of like I have a business friend here in town and he loves that. So if he's got like a hundred employees and he goes, I realize.
'Cause I he knows the size of the families.
Andy Mason (10:30)
That's my studio. Yeah.
Dave (10:32)
Yeah, that there's there's like six hundred and seventy-five people I'm taking care of every week. Well
Andy Mason (10:34)
That's right. Yeah.
Dave (10:37)
see, he's got that he's got that stewarding mentality. And it's it's not his. Like stewarding means like with what you do, Andy, and with what I do, we know it's here. You know, it's it's sitting here. It's not ours to go do. And I and I think that's a discipleship piece that we have to get is like, Lord, this is yours.
And you're kind of asking me to be a steward of what's in your heart in the setting that I'm in. And I think if business owners can can start by saying, Lord, I give you my company. It's yours. You're the one that even graced me to have the idea or the funding or whatever, the hands to do it, the mind that, you know. Yeah, it's
Andy Mason (11:10)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's yours. Yeah.
Dave (11:17)
yours. So so I give that to you, which means the people that you bring here, whether they know you or not.
You've brought them here and there's something about them being here under this compass or under this globe of the kingdom of God that I need to steward. And so it doesn't mean you wear your I Love Jesus t-shirts, do you know him? It do right? But it Yeah, you drop them all over the office. Sh Yeah, exact that's
Andy Mason (11:39)
Yeah, your little Jesus is all around the office. Yeah. Although that's that's fun. I mean, just make chocolate. At least we can eat those. Yeah.
Dave (11:49)
awesome. Yeah, but it but it's like I think there's a mentality first of
As a disciple of Jesus, it's like you're all about, you quoted that scripture, seeking first the kingdom. And it's like that's what it's about. So so in your business, that's a great question for you to ask yourself. Is your business and how you orient to it and and lead it? Is it first about seeking first the kingdom? And it doesn't mean that you paint I love Jesus on the outside of your building. It doesn't mean that. Yeah, yeah.
Andy Mason (12:21)
It's subscription. Yeah, yeah.
Dave (12:23)
It doesn't mean that, but what it does mean is there are certain ways that you approach it. And I and I think that's what you're getting at, Andy, and I love
Andy Mason (12:31)
Yeah.
Dave (12:31)
that.
Andy Mason (12:32)
Yeah, so it's a stewardship. I love it. You said it's Acts One to do and to teach. So do it.
Dave (12:37)
Yeah. Yep.
Andy Mason (12:39)
So so then okay, practical. What is the difference between coaching, mentoring, managing and discipling?
Dave (12:48)
Yeah, that's a great question. And I you know, it I think a lot of it depends on the execution. Like for me, mentoring, I love mentoring. Mentoring to me is this broad subject where it's like there's something you do well and you're passing it on to somebody else. Like my one time Andy, so like one of the things that my wife sometime will have to have you over and and so you can experience this, but she has this amazing Dutch apple pie.
Andy Mason (13:14)
yeah, I'm in. I I'm in. Let's go. Yeah.
Dave (13:16)
That is yeah, it's it's straight up like, okay, we're going into worship right now, right? You
know, and and so so she's mentoring these four young women all in their twenties and and Thanksgiving's coming and she says, Do you guys know how to make a pie? And of course they all say no. And so she literally has them over to the house so that they could each walk into their Thanksgiving dinner and everybody's going, Well, what store did you buy that at? No, I made this, right? So mentoring could be anything from spiritual life stuff to how to throw a football to how to bake a pie to how to run a business, okay?
Coaching tends to be more asking the right questions to help pull out things and then you can crystallize that and help someone. Disciple making to me, like because Jesus said go and make disciples. He didn't use kind of the analogy and it wasn't around at maybe at the time, but of mentoring or coaching. He said discipling. And the difference for me with discipling is it's always referencing God's character, who he is, and his ways of doing things from the scripture.
And so, you know, like Andy, for me with business folks, sometimes, you know, and I'll tease and tee them up by saying, Hey, what's your bottom line this year? And of course with a business person, you always get a number. Well, this year it's gonna be one point three or it's gonna be sixty-five point four and I'm s I say, no, no, no, that's not what I'm after. Like what's your bottom line of your why? And we get into the conversation and we start talking about how things like customer service is often used as another methodology to get people in the door.
Where as a follower of Jesus, customer service is actually a biblical concept. And if you serve people well, they'll come back and drink at your well. That that's a biblical concept. It's so it but it's not you guys just do things, treat people right, because we don't want to lose them. That's all fear-based. And it and it can be all finance-based. But if it starts with our motivation, is when someone comes into our store, our company, whatever.
Whether it's products or services, that you know you're gonna offer the best service, you're going to, so to speak, wash their feet with service, and and you're gonna be integral enough that if you know what they're looking for is not what you have, you're gonna say, you know what? You're looking for something we don't do quite as well as my friend over here. Can I introduce them to you? There's a there in other words, there's a character piece to it, there's an integrity to it with serving.
And but also meeting the need. And it's like here's the thing: when you try to help people meet their real needs, how is Jesus not gonna bless you for that?
Andy Mason (15:51)
Yeah, yeah. So so it probably comes up the next thing is people think, well, disciple making that's about sitting down, sitting around a Bible, talking about what the Bible says about life. And I've got a hundred plumbers, or I've got I've got people that are painting houses, or I've got IT people, or or whatever it may be, is what we're talking about
Can I disciple someone without them realizing I'm actually discipling them? Is it way more than just memorize this scripture as it pertains to your work?
Dave (16:27)
Yeah, yeah, that's really good. So I approach this two from two vantage points, Andy. So with the person that doesn't yet know Jesus, how I want to disciple them is through influence. And so I it starts with the way that I treat them. Secondly, it's the way they see me relating to other people. Like, like I think we often skip those two things, right? And just get, well, they see how successful I am. And it's like, actually.
That's down
Andy Mason (16:55)
No.
Dave (16:56)
the road a little bit. Yeah. It's like it's like the way that you treat them and the way they see you treating others. You're actually you might not be saying anything about Jesus. You might not be sh saying, Hey, this is in the gospel of Luke. But what you're doing is living in such a way that it's attractive. And and in for me it's a it's it's kind of again that brushing up against them the things of God in a way that's not harsh or brash or but it causes them to be open.
And I and I think that that's a really, really important piece. And I've watched people be drawn in deeper because they'll someday they'll say this, What is it about you, man? Like the
Andy Mason (17:33)
Yeah, why are you different?
Dave (17:35)
Yeah. And and it's
Andy Mason (17:36)
So number number
one is is to do it, to model the way of Christ, which then you cannot do in your own ability. It comes by being discipled, which is not just an accountability to don't screw up. It's a it's someone that's walking with you. That's a separate
Dave (17:52)
Yeah.
Andy Mason (17:53)
conversation. Dave does stuff, heaven and business stuff. You're probably listening to this because you want to be shaped and discipled,
and that's
Dave (18:00)
Yeah.
Andy Mason (18:00)
really one of our goals. Let's assume that I am.
I am engaged, growing in my own walk with God. I don't just have little Jesus all over the place. I actually live, I don't just say, God bless you to the server. I actually live a life that is blessing people. So let's say that's happening. And and like that CEO of that organization, I'm sure that that is what he's like, a godly man doing a great work. But he hasn't
Dave (18:25)
Yeah. Yeah.
Andy Mason (18:27)
crossed the next line to intentionally shape and develop the lives of the employees.
into the nature and character and ways of Jesus as it is expressed in their workplace. Talk to me about that. And really I'm saying, let's just use an example. If I've got someone that's that's saying I'm walking the life but I've got I got 20 plumbers or I've got a hundred painters or I've got a company with 20 people that do embroidery. What whatever it is,
Dave (19:00)
Yes.
Andy Mason (19:01)
where where could you start?
If I say I want to intentionally start developing or discipling the people that God has entrusted to me.
Dave (19:11)
Yeah. So I I look at this in several layers, Andy. One layer for me is so ask the question. this is how we help people kind of pay attention to who they should be discipling. And someone asked me this about, I don't know, twenty-five, thirty years ago, and I've snagged it and we've used it to help people understand. Ask the question, in whose ears are my words big?
Andy Mason (19:34)
Really good.
Dave (19:36)
In whose ears are my words big? Because here's the thing. If you realize when you say something and it actually has weight, to the point that someone actually goes and does what you've suggested, you have to realize, and and here's the thing that I think we miss. It's like, that's great. We have to we gotta get beyond the that's great and realize the Holy Spirit, the living God has given you favor with that person.
where your words have greater weight than maybe so-and-so and so-and-so's. And so a great place to start is like even as you're hearing this and Andy and I are talking about it, who are those two, three dozen people, whatever they are, that number is, where you just know, man, they they listen, they do it, and they come back for more. People like that are what I call hungry of heart. And I I look for people that are hungry of heart that want the investment.
And so I think that's a that's an important place to start. And and I I'm I'm a guy, Andy, that likes to because the way I see discipleship work is Jesus just started with 12, but as they did it, there's a there's a momentum that builds and that impacts more. Where in in the world, what we do is we go go grabbing for the big stuff. And Jesus does it opposite. And
Andy Mason (20:52)
And yeah.
Dave (20:54)
and I have found that if you port like so let's just say the company you're you know imagining they're
You start with six or eight people where your words are big in their ears and there's a spiritual hunger and you just say to them, Hey, what if what if once a week we all got in here a little bit early? I'll I'll pick up breakfast or you guys can rotate bringing in donuts or whatever. But we just take an hour and there's something that I want to begin to walk you through that will help us learn things like, What is God really like? how do I actually hear him? Because I've never heard God audibly, but I've learned in here.
to follow his lead. Like like what if we talk about integrity both at home and on the job? What if we talk about things like spiritual warfare? Like some whenever you set yourself out to do something well for God, you're gonna get resisted. So what do you do with that? How do you re well I just and let's say those six or eight guys go, I'm totally in. Let's do this. Well you're starting and don't don't bite off a big piece. Just bite off that size piece
And then as you pour into them, because here's what will happen, their lives will begin to transf be transformed. And they're going to be sitting out there, whether it's plumbing or whatever it is they're doing, and they're going to say, Man, I had this thing this way and this happened to me. And others are going, can I get in on that? Well, just be patient because what your goal would be, and Andy, this is my tease I always do all the time, is don't don't make disciples, be a disciple maker.
In other words, make disciples in such a way that you're helping those people do the same. So when they when there's this buzz in the company of, hey, can we get it on that? Hey, hey, I never heard that you say, well, then all of a sudden you could go to those six or eight and say, okay, I'm gonna ask you to pair up. So let's say there was eight. So we're gonna start four other groups. I'm gonna take a new group, but let's open it up and you guys start doing this. Well, you can see over about a you know 18, 24, 36 month period of time the impact that can have on your employees.
Is huge.
Andy Mason (22:55)
Yeah.
Yeah. And this is this is good. And someone listening to this is like, well, I couldn't do that. I've got so many examples. We just had conference in Dallas two weeks ago. A c a couple of guys came, one of the business partners was unsaved. And partner, no not not employee, partner. And the first
Dave (23:09)
Mm. Hmm. Yeah, yeah.
Andy Mason (23:13)
night comes up and and they've been praying and doing the first thing. What's the first thing? Do before you teach, before you say, do it, do that. And then but
As you're doing it, as you grow, don't wait until you're perfect because none of us are.
Dave (23:29)
No, no.
Andy Mason (23:30)
but be actually being the first one to say, you know what? Yesterday I told you this and I didn't do that. That's actually lying. I re we don't want to apologize. That you that'll just that by itself, the apology, will be a disciple making moment. So it's all of these little things. So we had one guy get saved. Correct.
Dave (23:44)
Hundred percent. Yeah, because you just ac Yeah, you just exercised humility. Yeah.
Andy Mason (23:51)
We had one guy get saved. we've done a ex a retreat.
where
a global company, three of them saved, one of the executives unsaved. And by the third day, I mean we're talking it it was mind-blowing what happened. The unsaved
Dave (24:08)
Wow. Wow.
Andy Mason (24:09)
guy is washing the feet and praying for the others. Like they're sliding their way into the kingdom. And obviously
Dave (24:16)
Yeah.
Andy Mason (24:16)
there's lordship and we didn't talk about that. Okay, switch it up a little bit, Dave.
Dave (24:22)
Okay.
Andy Mason (24:22)
What if I've got a company that
I'm in a place or location where I can't do like a spiritual formation straight up, hey, we're gonna talk about the Bible and Jesus, but I still want to intentionally div and so there's probably two ends of this. One, it's 100% spiritual formation. And they're gonna grow in other things. The other one is it's 100% developing the leaders around you and developing your team. And
And that's good and necessary. And if people are not doing that, you could start with John Maxwell's book, Developing the Leaders Around You, going through books like that that are safe and not overt, that you could do in any environment. If I'm saying, hey, I you know, I've I haven't done either of these, but I want to start something, and and I don't have an audience or a group that are saying, I want to do this part, could I start somewhere like
Could I just start teaching stuff and then see what God does? Like what what does that even look like?
Dave (25:23)
Yeah. And I and for me, Andy, I always ride the relational train, right? It's like again, think about those that you have relationship with, meaning trust. Cause when there's trust, it like you can't really speak into someone's life until there's trust. And one of the phrases we use a lot, Andy, is to the degree you have relationship, to that same degree you have authority to speak into somebody's life. And and and so think about like those around you
Where where there's relationship, there's trust, and and again, you may be a step ahead in some things of the Lord. And so what are those mechanisms? Some of it can be as simple as because you can't bust your Bible out or a discipleship tool or all that. But what you can do is say, Hey, how about every other week? whether it's you bring your bags of lunch together and you kinda go off into a corner or you go out to eat together.
But where where you can have conversations and again, let's just say that it's a mixed crew where there's some that spiritually are there and some just aren't. You can always start with things of character. Like you can always start with, you know, things like, are are you a person of integrity? Are you a person, you know, that do you like like and again for guys, I think this is a is an undervalued thing.
Guys, do you know as a leader how to be gentle?
Because we know how to be rough and tumble, let's go take them out. But there's times as a leader, I because it is, Andy, one of the fruit of the spirit. Gentleness. And and I have found it's one of the things that leaders can lack because of the world that we're in and the people we deal with that can sometimes be challenging and a pain. But we've got to learn to be gentle. And there's been times, like there's a principle, Andy, that we use called operating in the opposite spirit.
And what we mean by that is it's it's kind of based out of Proverbs where it says a soft answer turns away wrath. So when I have somebody that comes at me and they're just and you know the veins are bulging and all this, I've learned in that moment, okay, Lord, you're with me, and there's obviously something going on in this person. What I have found, and I'm sure you too have, Andy, is when there's that kind of intensity, it's really not about me. It's something that got triggered about their past or whatever the case may be.
And in that moment, I just kind of do this and I duck and I let everything they say just go right past me. I know the Lord can handle it standing there behind me. And literally, if I respond gently and I just once they're done and they've blown all their steam and I just put my hand gently on their shoulder and just say, I am so sorry, man, that that's really hard. The next thing is you know, and and their heart just opens. But see, if we don't understand that part of a leader.
A along with taking territory is learning in moments to be gentle. You can't get through to the person's heart. Does that make
Andy Mason (28:21)
Yeah.
Dave (28:21)
sense?
Andy Mason (28:22)
Yeah. Yeah. So I mean, so what we're saying is this wherever you're at, you're listening, you're watching this, you you don't have an employee problem. It's it's a people development problem. And what we're saying is we actually have a responsibility to disciple people in the midst of this, whether they
Dave (28:37)
Yeah.
Andy Mason (28:37)
know it or not. And and we can have different people on this to interview around this topic to actually say, What are the tools to do this? Dave, you've got some that are overtly Jesus. So let's just say I can do this.
people know that I'm in an environment. I'm inviting people in, they have a choice. Tell us a little about some of the resources that you have that people could say, man, I I could use that within my company to start to make disciples.
Dave (29:06)
Yeah, the one that you just held up there, Andy, is kind of our little flagship one for discipleship. Yeah, discipleship journey. And let me tell you why. there there are forty-eight lessons. You there's 12 chapters, four lessons a chapter, so that you can spend a month going deep on something. You just don't blow past it too quickly. But a as Andy will see at the end of every lesson, there's three questions. The first one is what did the Holy Spirit reveal to you as you went through this? Like you watch a little video.
And then take your Bible and you go through the lesson. Okay. And what did the Holy Spirit reveal? How are you going to obey this in your life? And then there's a third question that has to do with how does what you just learned apply in your vocation? So you're actually helping people, like for example, if you're dealing with a topic of honor, Bible, the Bible says, outdo one another in showing honor. I think honor is one of the most terrific ways that you can be an example of Jesus to people is when they feel that you've treated them with value. And
And so you go through that lesson, then all of a sudden the question is like, are you treating your boss with honor? Or when you're behind his back, are you just complaining? You know, and ripping into him? Are as a boss, do your employees actually feel like you value them? Like you stop and go, Jim, how are you doing? Last night you told me your mom wasn't good on the way. How is she do you know, where it's just ways that that you can be a good relator to people? Well, in this tool, it helps you
drive everything Andy to application. So that's a that's an easy lift for people. Yeah. Yep.
Andy Mason (30:34)
Yeah. That's a resource. Yeah, there's a re
easy and and people if you listen to this, Heaven in Business has a growth path that is one hundred percent aimed at business owners carrying responsibility and saying, I ha I'm stuck, where do I how do I do this?
Dave (30:49)
Yeah. Yeah.
Andy Mason (30:52)
We have that. There's a bunch of other resources. And so if you've got any questions on w what your situation is and what resources you need specific to the people that you're leading, whether
That's an environment, for example, a overtly underground China church through to Tennessee, through to California. It's different in different places what you can openly or or quietly do, but Jesus works everywhere. So it's
Dave (31:17)
Yeah. Yeah.
Andy Mason (31:20)
just so much fun. for those that are listening, you can find out more about Dave at Lionshare.org. That's correct, Dave.
Dave (31:31)
Yes, that's right.
Andy Mason (31:32)
you got a podcast, you got a bunch of other things. Any final words that you would say to listeners today?
Dave (31:39)
Yeah, two two things. One would be i if you go to your app store and you type in Lion Share Leadership Group, there's an app there that has like it's free it's free. So there's like three hundred and sixty five two minute daily video devotionals on the character of God. So if you went through it in a year, you would renew your mind based on scripture what God says about Himself.
That's a big deal. So there that's a tool. And the other thing I want to say is this is Andy, thank you for doing what you do. It's like I I think our the ease of heartlink is like the the Lord's put us in the same pond doing things just a little bit different, a little bit different focus, but the core is the same. So I I honor you, Andy, and I'm really grateful for what you're doing. And Andy and I now live in the same town, so we'll be able to have a little more hang time together. That's right.
Andy Mason (32:28)
Apple pie. Let's go.
Man, want to thank you, Dave. I really appreciate that. So for you listening, what Dave highlighted is identify someone where your words are big in their ears. They're responsible, teachable. Start to intentionally gather and meet with them, and you can choose what you do, whether that's a disciple journey, whether you take one of those two-minute things from Dave, whether you take a podcast like this and unpack it and say, What's the Holy Spirit? or
What's your conviction? What impacts you the most from this? What are you going to do differently? And how does that apply to your daily work? Leading those conversations, whether you do it overtly or whether you go take a a proverb a day from the book of Proverbs and use wisdom, you're going to ask the Holy Spirit, how could I do this? How could I start? Or email us and
Dave (33:17)
Yeah, that's right.
Andy Mason (33:18)
just ask us questions. We got the situation. What resources do you have or do you know of that could help in our environment?
And number three, do it consistently. Don't just start and stop. Start small, but continue. Regular, consistent, and intentional, and you'll be amazed what happens over time.
Dave (33:37)
Yeah.
Andy Mason (33:38)
Have a great week, everybody.
