The Invitation to Surrender: Why Letting Go Is the Greatest Gain
Apr 15, 2026
I’ve been following Jesus since I was about 13 years old. And if you’d asked me even a year ago, I would have told you, I’ve surrendered my life to Him.
But in this season, I’m realizing something:
There’s always more.
God has been gently, persistently inviting me into a deeper place of surrender. And I have a sense I’m not the only one He’s speaking to about this right now.

When Surrender Feels Like a Hard Sell
If I’m honest, surrender isn’t an easy message to share.
As business people, we think in terms of return on investment. And surrender doesn’t seem to come with guarantees.
Give up your life.
Lay down your desires.
Release control.
And trust that it will be worth it?
That can feel like a risk.
But what I’m discovering is this:
The more I surrender, the more I encounter Him, and the less anything else matters.
Why This Has Been Hard for Me
Part of my journey with surrender is personal.
Growing up, surrender didn’t feel safe. It felt like being overpowered. I learned to resist, to hold my ground, to never give in.
And while I’ve followed God faithfully for years, I can now see that there were still places in my heart that I hadn’t fully yielded.
Places where I was still holding on.
Maybe you can relate.
The Deeper Layer: What Am I Really After?
Recently, God began highlighting an area of my life where I felt stuck, where hope felt difficult.
As I leaned in, prayed, and sought help, something deeper surfaced.
I realized I didn’t just want breakthrough…
I wanted to feel good about myself.
That was confronting.
Because surrender wasn’t just about outcomes, it was about motives.
And I came to a place where I said:
“Lord, even if I never feel satisfied… I still choose You.”
And in that place, He met me.
Covenant: All of Me for All of Him
As I’ve processed this journey, I keep coming back to the idea of covenant.
In my marriage with Andy, we don’t each bring 50%.
We each bring 100%.
Everything we are. Everything we have.
And I’m realizing, it’s the same with God.
He offers all of Himself, and invites all of me in return.
And when I really think about that, I get the better end of the deal every time.
What I’m Learning About Surrender
Surrender isn’t about losing, it’s about access.
Scripture tells us we already carry everything we need:
- The Holy Spirit within us
- The fullness of God available to us
- His power working through us
But I’m learning this:
I access that reality through yielded-ness.
The more I lay down my agenda, my preferences, my need for control...
The more I step into His.
From Striving to Responding
For years, I’ve felt this underlying pressure:
“I should be more passionate. More hungry. More consistent.”
And I carried guilt when I couldn’t sustain that.
But recently, something shifted.
We love because He first loved us.
What if I’ve had it backwards?
What if I’m not the initiator?
I’ve started to see God as the CEO of my life, the Chief Everything Officer.
And me?
I’m the CRO, the Chief Responding Officer.
He initiates.
I respond.
That changes everything.
You Can’t Out-give God
I saw this so clearly recently.
Someone in our community gave something away something valuable in their business.
Within days, God responded with overwhelming provision. More than they could have planned for.
It was a reminder:
You cannot out-give God.
What Surrender Looks Like in Real Life
This isn’t just a big spiritual concept.
It’s deeply practical.
It affects:
- How I serve people
- How I see others
- How I show up in my marriage
- Even how I respond to small, everyday moments
Surrender isn’t dramatic.
It’s daily.

Final Thought
I’m still on this journey.
But what I know is this:
The more I surrender, the more I find Him.
And the more I find Him…
The more I realize He was everything I was looking for all along.
