Faith & Business Under Fire

“He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.” — Psalm 37:6 (NIV)

The Ordeal

In 2017, Sean and his partners faced the unthinkable. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) opened an investigation into their investment advisory firm.

There had been no investor complaints. No missing funds. No evidence of fraud. Yet, the SEC pressed forward - issuing subpoenas, conducting ten-hour depositions, and combing through every aspect of their business for years.

What began as a routine inquiry turned into a full-blown lawsuit. The Commission leveled ten separate allegations: undisclosed conflicts of interest, misleading filings, misuse of client funds, overvaluation of assets, and more. For Sean, this wasn’t just a challenge - it was what he called the “death sentence” of his industry.

Banks closed his accounts. Credit cards were canceled. Mortgages denied. Business partners distanced themselves. And the SEC’s public press release branded him guilty before he had a chance to respond.

The Response

Most people settle. But Sean and his partners knew they had done nothing wrong. They took counsel from the Lord and heard a word that became their anchor: “Full exoneration and dismissal.”

For six years they clung to that word.

They prayed daily and worshiped through the fear.

They corrected one another’s language - “Not if, but when.”

They stood firm on integrity: refusing every settlement that would falsely brand them as guilty.

But faith wasn’t the only factor. Their survival was also about systems.

The Integrity of Systems

Every record. Every transaction. Every disclosure. Their books, audits, and processes were subjected to the most intense federal scrutiny possible—for five years.

And in the end?

All ten allegations were dismissed.

That was God. That was hope. That was courage. That was good lawyers and godly strategy. AND it was also the integrity of their accounting and business systems.

Because when the spotlight turned on, nothing broke. No shortcuts, no cover-ups, no hidden cracks. Their systems carried the weight of examination.

The Breakthrough

In September 2023, after six years of testing, pressure and litigation, the phone call finally came:

“The SEC is dismissing every single charge.”

No fine. No admission of guilt. No settlement. Just as God had promised: full exoneration.

Lessons Learned

  1. God’s Word Anchors You

When circumstances look impossible, you need a promise bigger than the problem. God’s Word became a compass in their storm.

  1. Guard Your Hope and Your Words

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but hope spoken and declared builds faith. Language either fuels fear or reinforces faith. Choose your words carefully and have people around you who will speak correction and encouragement.

  1. Integrity Is Non-Negotiable

Settlement would have been easier, but it would have branded them falsely forever. Refusing false settlement preserved their reputation.

  1. Community Sustains Courage

Spouses, mentors, and prophetic voices carried them when strength ran low. You cannot endure alone.

  1. Systems Prove Integrity

Faith alone doesn’t balance books. Righteous intent is a vanity metric. The kingdom of God is not about what you say but what you do. Strong accounting, transparent audits, and clean governance became the evidence that silenced every accusation.

  1. Trials don’t block favor

Even while under investigation, God opened doors – like acquiring a multi-million dollar mine for cents in the dollar! Adversity and favor often run side by side.

From Accusation to Certification

The investigation meant to destroy them became the very process that certified them.

Six years. Ten allegations. Federal lawyers. Thousands of documents. And in the end, not one charge stood.

Today, Sean and his partners can look investors, partners, and even government agencies in the eye and say: “We were tested at the highest level, and our integrity stood.”

The accusations became certification. The systems they had built became proof. And what the enemy meant for harm, God turned into a platform for increase.

Positioning for Leaders

This isn’t just Sean’s story - it’s a Kingdom blueprint.

Build faith on God’s promises.

Build courage in community.

Build integrity into your systems before the trial ever comes.

Because sooner or later, pressure will test you. And when it does, you don’t rise to the level of your intentions - you fall to the level of your systems.
