How to Read the Bible as a Business Leader

Please Slow Down

You don’t wake up one day and decide to drift from God.

It’s quieter than that. It happens in small ways. You get busy. You make decisions faster. You rely on what’s worked before, and before you realize it, your life is still “Christian” but it’s no longer being led. That’s the tension. Because most business leaders don’t lack faith. They lack ongoing connection. The subtle shift no one talks about

You can build a successful business with yesterday’s revelation. You can lead teams, make decisions, and grow something meaningful all without hearing anything new from God. That’s what makes this dangerous. Because it still works for a while. But over time, something starts to feel off.

You’re making good decisions but not always God decisions. You’re moving forward but not always in step. And the question underneath it all becomes: Am I being led, or am I just being driven?

What actually changes everything

For me, the turning point wasn’t a conference or a breakthrough moment. It was a realization.

I wasn’t designed to figure this out on my own. I was designed to walk with God. Not occasionally. Not when things got hard, but daily, practically, in the middle of real decisions. That’s when the Word of God stopped being something I referenced and started becoming something I relied on.

This is where most people get stuck: They try to fit the Bible into their life. A few minutes here. A quick read there. And then move on. But the Word of God doesn’t work like a tool you pick up when needed. It works like a relationship you stay connected to. And relationships don’t grow through convenience. They grow through intentional presence.

A different way to think about it

  • What if the goal isn’t to read more?
  • What if the goal is to be led more?

Because those are not the same thing. You can read chapters and still miss connections, or you can sit with one sentence and let it reshape how you think, decide, and lead. That’s the difference between consumption and transformation.

What I’ve learned over time

There have been seasons where reading the Bible felt alive. And seasons where it felt dry. Seasons where everything made sense. And seasons where nothing did.

But here’s what I’ve learned: Consistency builds something you can’t always feel in the moment.

It’s forming you. Shaping your instincts. Refining your decisions. Anchoring your perspective. Even when it doesn’t feel like it.

The real goal

The goal isn’t to become a Bible expert. The goal is to become someone who is led by God in real time. In conversations. In decisions. In pressure. That’s where this becomes powerful. Because now it’s not just something you do in the morning. It’s something that shows up in everything.

A better question to ask

Instead of asking: How do I read the Bible more?

Try asking: What would it look like to let God lead me today?

That changes how you approach everything. Because now you’re not just reading:

  • You’re listening.
  • You’re not just studying.
  • You’re responding.

Where this meets your business

This is where it gets practical. Because when you’re led by God:

  • You don’t have to force clarity.
  • You don’t panic when things are uncertain.
  • You don’t react from pressure.
  • You move with steadiness.
  • You decide with confidence.
  • You lead from alignment.

Not because you have all the answers, but because you’re connected to the One who does.

A simple place to start

Don’t overcomplicate this. Pick a time. Open the Word. Read something small.

Then stop and ask: God, what are You highlighting right now?

And don’t rush past it. Let it sit. Carry it with you. Come back to it later. That’s how this becomes real.

Final thought

You don’t drift into a life led by God. You build it. One day at a time. One moment of attention at a time. One decision to come back again and again. And over time, something shifts. You’re no longer trying to figure everything out. You’re walking with Someone who already knows.

Activation question

Where in your life have you been relying on what you already know instead of staying connected to what God is saying right now?
