Do you want to level up?

Most of us would say yes, especially in business, leadership, or life. Growth feels like responsibility. Stewardship demands it. But here’s the tension:

What if the way you’ve been taught to grow is actually disconnected from the Source of life? How would you even know?

“Is this dependent on Christ, or could this run completely without Him?”

The Problem with “Leveling Up”

We live in a world obsessed with growth.

The self-help industry is worth over $50 billion globally, with $12 billion in the U.S. alone.

You’d think with that much investment, we’d be thriving.

But many aren’t.

Why?

Because most systems start in the wrong place.

They start with:

  • Do more
  • Be better
  • Improve yourself

But they skip the most important foundation:

Connection with God

Go Back to the Beginning

Genesis gives us the original blueprint.

Before Adam and Eve did anything, God:

  • Created them in His image = identity
  • Blessed them = affirmation and validation
  • Then gave them an assignment

 But what do we do?

We reverse it.

Assignment → Performance → Identity (maybe)

And that’s where things break.

The First Self-Help Program

Let’s call it what it is.

The first self-help pitch didn’t come from a stage.

It came from a serpent (see Genesis 3).

“Do you want to be more? Do you want to level up?”

And here was the hook:

“You’re not enough as you are.”

So what did Adam do?

He bypassed God:

No checking in.
No surrender.
No relationship.

Just:

 “I’ll do it myself.”

And that was the fall.

What’s Really Broken?

The issue was never effort.

It was independence.

“The claim to my life, my way.”

That’s the root.

And it still shows up today:

  • My business
  • My success
  • My health
  • My body
  • My strategy

All disconnected from God.

Here’s the Truth You Forgot

You are not trying to become something.

You already are:

  • Made in His image
  • Already blessed
  • Already given purpose

The lie is:

“You are not enough.”

The truth is:

You are already more than enough—in Him.

So Should You Grow?

Yes. Absolutely.

But here’s the distinction:

Growth must come from relationship, not independence

Jesus modeled this perfectly:

“Of Myself I can do nothing.” John 5:30

He didn’t lack ability.

He chose dependence.

The Original Assignment (Still Yours Today)

Genesis 1:28 (NKJV)
“Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it…”

Context

This was spoken before sin—before striving. It’s God’s original design for humanity.

Word Study

  • Fruitful – internal growth, character
  • Multiply – expansion, increase
  • Subdue – bring order, steward creation

Kingdom Principles

  1. Growth starts inside before it expands outside
  2. Authority flows from relationship, not control

Business Application

  • Build internal capacity before scaling
  • Expand influence through value, not force
  • Turn chaos into order through Spirit-led strategy

Activation Question:
What are you trying to multiply externally that God wants to form internally first?

What Real “Level Up” Looks Like

It’s not:

  • More hustle
  • More strategy
  • More pressure

It’s this:

Deeper surrender. Stronger union. Greater impact.

3 Practical Keys:

1. Check Your Surrender

When was the last time you actually paused and asked:

“Not my will, but Yours be done?”

2. Reestablish Daily Union

Connection isn’t occasional—it’s relational rhythm.

  • Set a daily anchor time
  • Build touchpoints throughout your day
  • Listen, don’t just talk

3. Build From That Place

Ask daily:

  • “What are You doing today?”
  • “Where are You leading?”

Then follow.

Final Thought

Maybe leveling up isn’t about climbing higher.

Maybe it’s about kneeling lower.

Because the real invitation is this:

“Come to Me… learn from Me… walk with Me.”
