I'm Stuck; I Don't Know What to Do

I'm stuck I don't know what to do

I’m stuck. I don’t know what to do. I think I’ve hit my ceiling or reached my capacity or whatever you want to call it. I knew this year was going to be a growth year but right now I just want to push the exit button for a while and escape the pressure.

Ever feel like this yourself? What you do now can really make a big difference to what’s next. Here’s what I did this morning… (reposted from

Where are you stuck?

At the top of my journal I wrote the The phrase “I don’t know what to do.” Then I journaled the areas I feel stuck in. The area’s that are outside my control or ability to ‘fix’ in the moment. The situations that trigger an adrenalin rush into your gut if you wake up and think about them at 3am!

Where in your life is there good news?

I then paused and thought there are a bunch of really good things happening right now also. So I wrote “Good news:” and listed some areas of my life that are doing well.

What is the challenge that is making you stuck?

For me the good news is resulting in the challenge. The favor and growth we have experienced is stretching me beyond my capacity and comfort. The increased favor has not (yet) resulted in a flow of customers or resources that I need to serve the increased favor. I hear God saying Isaiah 54:2-4 “Let them stretch you out…” but I have no idea HOW to manage this.

What is the challenge that is causing you to feel stuck? What is behind that?

So what will you do in this moment?

I knew that this is one of those defining moments. What will I do when I feel stuck, overwhelmed, afraid, frustrated….

I chose to strengthen myself in the Lord [because I read in some book that this is the thing you are supposed to do!]

So I journalled….

He is my hope, strength, my hiding place.

He is my God in whom I trust.

So I remember the Lord…

You brought us to this place
You spoke to us about doing this very thing
You said to launch out and expand
These are Your people we are serving

As I was journalling this I again had the thought that the phrase “I don’t know what to do” was in the bible somewhere. I should look it up. I’m learning those thoughts are probably God!

So I searched on my mobile bible YouVersion and BOOM I found the reference. As I read the story it was like God was speaking and reminding me directly! The king in the story was facing an overwhelming task/opposition/challenge. I just translated this to my business situation.

I wrote the scripture down in my journal… paraphrased to me:

2 Chronicles 20:12

O our God, will you not do something?!

For we are powerless and we don’t know what to do,

BUT OUR EYES ARE ON YOU.

I know I’m not powerless, but sometimes it feels that way. Ive learned to communicate to God directly how I feel. Just like the king did earlier in this chapter also:

The king feared, and set himself to seek the Lord… 2 Chronicles 20:3

Feeling afraid is normal. What we do in the middle of the fear determines what happens next.

And then God spoke… I know this because the words aren’t just words on a page. They seem to impact me more than just my head. They release life, peace and hope. They also have strategy wrapped up inside for me to unpack…

And God spoke.

v.15 Listen up Andy! Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this situation. For the battle is not yours but Gods. Tomorrow, go to your work to face this issue. You will not need to fight. Position yourselves as I have called you to (prayer, faithfully doing what we know to do).

Then stand still and see the salvation of the Lord WHO IS WITH YOU.

Do not fear or be dismayed.

Tomorrow go out against this situation FOR THE LORD IS WITH YOU.

v.20 Believe in the Lord your God and you will be established. Believe in His prophets and you will prosper.

So what’s your plan?

This story and feeling is wonderful but how do I translate all that to some action points for my situation?

This is where I have to go with my conviction.

In the story they sent their army into battle singing and praising God (not the normal approach into a ‘battle’ or business problem!).

FOR ME: I will intentionally increase the amount of prayer and worship in my day. This is the OPPOSITE of what my natural tendency would be to do. I will strengthen my connection with God AT WORK and listen morning by morning to the insight and things he would have me focus on each day.

This looks like literally asking Him “What are my priority tasks for today?” Then write them down and EXECUTE.

And the result? I will have to let you know next week! See you then.
