Reignite Your Why: The White-Hot Core That Powers Kingdom Impact
Aug 13, 2025
Reignite your passion and purpose by discovering the white-hot core that powers your Kingdom impact in business and beyond.
Not long ago, I stumbled across an interview I did with my friend Mike Thakur - recorded three years ago! I was in my garage, earbuds in, casually listening… until something hit me hard.
The conversation pulled me straight back to the white-hot molten core - the passion that first set Heaven in Business in motion. It reignited the deep, unwavering “why” that fuels my work, my leadership, and my walk with God in the marketplace.
And here’s the truth: in the busyness of running a business, meeting deadlines, and managing teams, it’s easy to drift from that core. You start making decisions based solely on best practice or profit margins, and before long, your Kingdom impact starts to cool.
This is your call to remember - or discover, your why.
From Owning a Business to Stewarding God’s Business
Many Christian entrepreneurs operate like this: “I’m a business owner who happens to be a Christian.”
But the Kingdom mindset flips that completely: “I’m a Christian business owner running God’s business - and He gives me a paycheck.”
That shift changes everything. Profit becomes a tool, not the goal. Decisions get filtered through obedience, not just opportunity. And the wellbeing of your city becomes as important as your company’s bottom line.
The Power of His Voice
Best practice is valuable. Strategy is essential. But the one thing that sets a Kingdom business apart is this: following the voice of God without reserve.
It’s what kept Israel in the wilderness for 40 years - learning they couldn’t live on bread alone, but on every word from God’s mouth. And it’s what will keep your business aligned with Heaven’s purpose when the “smart” move and the Spirit-led move don’t look the same.
Sometimes that voice will lead to instant miracles:
An employee healed in the breakroom.
A lawsuit dropped after an act of forgiveness.
A supply chain problem resolved overnight.
Other times, it will lead you into seasons of trust, perseverance, and character growth that shape you for greater influence.
How to Remember Your Why
If you’ve had a clear sense of purpose before but it’s faded, here’s how to reignite it:
Look Back at Your Story – Revisit the moments when you felt most alive in your work. Who were you serving? Why did it matter?
Revisit the Last Clear Assignment from God – Ask, “Lord, what’s the last thing You clearly told me to do?”
Recall the Fruit – Write down moments where your work made a tangible Kingdom impact.
Tell Your Story to Someone Else – Sharing your journey with a trusted peer or mentor can reveal threads you’ve overlooked.
If You Don’t Know Your Why Yet
If you’ve never been sure of your why, you’re not broken - you’re simply on the front end of discovery.
Start with God’s Why for You – Your first calling is always relationship (John 15:15).
Look for Favor and Fruit – Pay attention to where doors open and results come with grace.
Notice What Breaks Your Heart (and Lights You Up) – Often your calling sits at that intersection.
Experiment and Listen – Take action, serve, solve problems, and let God clarify your direction in motion.
In all of these ask yourself “What’s behind that?” Then after answering, repeat the question, three, four or five times, getting deeper and deeper until you cannot mine any further. It’s what drives you, what will keep you up at night, the core motivation behind you doing what you do.
Why Heaven in Business Exists
From our beginnings in Redding, California, the question has always been: What if we partnered fully with God in business and sought the wellbeing of our cities? When we ask ourselves “What’s behind that?” we realize we cannot control the outcome with much of what we do. So we go deeper and realize at the core, “Work is the primary place you forge your friendship with God.” That’s it – the white-hot molten core that powers what we do.
Our vision: One million business people living in daily partnership with God at work and actively engaging in the wellbeing of the cities they serve.
We pursue this by:
Connecting, training, activating and deploying leaders to partner with God at work, build better business and multiply kingdom impact. We do this by:
Teaching and training the crowd – through books, resources, online courses, and conferences.
Connecting and activating the few to disciple the many – through our membership community, mastermind groups, and retreats.
Partnering with local leaders – to host workshops and city-impact events.
Three Common Mistakes to Avoid
Talking more than walking – Let your daily actions speak louder than any value statement.
Trying to do it alone – Isolation is dangerous. Surround yourself with wise, proven peers. The only time you fatally fall is when you fall alone.
Choosing either/or over both/and – Don’t ditch best practice for prayer or prayer for best practice. A Kingdom business embraces both.
Your Invitation to Remember Why
Business is the primary place I forge my friendship with God. That’s my white-hot core, and it’s the same place your greatest Kingdom impact will be forged.
If your passion has cooled, it’s time to remember. If you’ve never known it, it’s time to discover it. Either way, the invitation is the same: listen for His voice in every decision, walk with others on the same journey, and let your business become a living testimony of His goodness, impacting your people, your city, and the world.
